Vocation
Each one of us has a vocation, a calling from God, to be people who are fully alive, who respond in word and deed to God’s abundant love, at home, in the workplace, in the community.
Some have a vocation – a calling – to serve the church, through authorised, licensed or ordained ministry. These pages are for those exploring these church vocations.
We offer support for Lay and Ordained vocations alike. Please use the links below to find out more about each of the ministries. Our Mission and Ministry team are here to support you on your journey. Here are some key contacts for our Lay Vocations team and Ordained ministry Vocations team:

Church vocations
Authorised Lay Ministry
ALMs are trained lay people, active in church life, who have a particular vocation, special interest, or skill, that can be an integral part of their church’s ministry.
Authorised Local Leadership
ALLs are a focal person, in a multi-parish benefice, for the congregation and the community which it seeks to serve.
Licensed Lay Ministry
LLMs lead God’s people in worship, preach, and equip the congregation to more closely follow Christ.
Ordained Ministry
Deacons and Priests are called to build up the church in love and enable it to reach out in service.
Vocational Resources
Foundations for Ministry
A 1-year non-accredited course delivered by the Eastern Region Ministry Course (ERMC). An introduction to theology for those thinking about exploring LLM or ordination and have little or no prior academic study.
Mentor Directory
This enrichment resource is provided by the Church of England for historically underrepresented Anglicans on the journey towards lay/ordained ministry. The directory has a diverse spectrum of ministers from across the country.
Peter Stream
The Peter Stream exists to support and champion people through discernment, focusing on the three most underrepresented groups, namely racial, social and educational.
If you are beginning to explore a vocation with someone who might benefit from the Peter Stream do get in touch with the DDO.
