The Diocese of Ely has had a link with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Nordkirche in Germany since 1991.

The area covered by Nordkirche Church stretches from Hamburg to the Danish border. It has three bishops based in Hamburg, Schleswig and LÜ beck, over eight hundred churches and chapels and over a thousand pastors.

Activities under this link have included:

  • links between parishes and deaneries in England and Germany
  • the exchange of clergy
  • joint training for curates.
