The Diocesan Secretary

The Diocesan Secretary

Paul Evans was appointed as the Diocesan Secretary of the Diocese of Ely in January 2014.

Having begun his church life as a cathedral chorister, Paul has had a distinguished public service career in the Royal Navy, British intelligence, HM Customs and Excise, and latterly as an Executive Director of the Serious Organised Crime Agency. Paul retired from public service in 2011 after some 38 years.

Paul moved to one of the big four accounting companies, KPMG, in August 2011 as a director in its UK Risk Consulting business. Following a family bereavement in 2013, Paul moved to Ely in 2014.

His areas of speciality are leadership, strategy and governance. He has been closely involved since his arrival in the development of the dioceses' growth strategy: Ely 2025.

Paul has had a long track record of involvement with the Church of England in a number of roles at parish and deanery level. He is passionate about church music and sings as regularly as people will let him in the Ely Cathedral voluntary choir.
