Organist / Choir Leader, Swaffham Parish Church

Swaffham Parish Church is looking for a new Organist /Choir Leader with a Passion to bring Music to the People and release their voices for the glory of God.

We [Swaffham Parish Church] are a friendly congregation with an enthusiastic / competent RSCM affiliated choir of 12 adults.  We seek someone who has a passion for church music, an understanding of Anglican Common Worship as well as the BCP Evening Office. 

We offer a Makin Digital Organ, a grand piano and a Bishop & Son Pipe Organ although this is in need of restoration.

  • Our services are a Sung Eucharist at 9.30am every Sunday with a 6pm Evensong every 1st Sunday. Hymns are supported with anthems. The choir sings at each of these services. 
  • You would lead a 75 minute weekly choir practice currently on a Tuesday evening from 7.15pm.
  • You must be happy to contribute music as part of our worship and be interested to develop an established balanced use of traditional and modern hymnody, as well as promote music in the community through concerts and possibly work with schools to introduce young people to church music.
  • We do have a relief organist available for holidays.
  • We are looking for someone with good inter-personal skills who will be sensitive to time and resources of choir members.

Further details

  • Salary: £5,100 per annum for services and choir practice
  • Plus generous Occasional Office Fees - funerals £100 and weddings £130.
  • Additional services at £40 per service.
  • You will have first offering to play for funerals and weddings and special services as they arise including for feast days through the year.
  • You will be employed by the PCC. 
  • To take up the position you must be prepared to undertake DBS check and basic Safeguarding training.
