Pastoral Secretary, Ely Diocesan Board of Finance (Diocese of Ely)

Pastoral Secretary, Ely Diocesan Board of Finance (Diocese of Ely)

About the Diocese

The Diocese of Ely oversees the work of 303 local parishes and 344 individual churches in Cambridgeshire and West Norfolk. We are looking to recruit a new Pastoral Secretary to join the Church Buildings and Pastoral Department, which supports the work of local churches throughout the Diocese.

About the Role

The role of Pastoral Secretary is key to helping the diocese put in place the right structures and individuals to support the development of the Church of England ministry in Cambridgeshire and West Norfolk.

The Pastoral Secretary works closely with the two Archdeacons to manage the work of the two Archdeaconry Mission and Pastoral Committees (ADMPCs) serving the Diocese, and related sub-committees.  The members of these committees consist of volunteers and clergy from around the Diocese, all working with a commitment to ensure the best use is made of available resources to further our work.

The ADMPCs oversee the Church's formal legal processes for changes to the deployment of clergy, the shape of parishes and benefices (groups of parishes) and also the future of former church buildings.

The Pastoral Secretary will work closely with the Diocesan Registry (legal office) and colleagues at the Church Commissioners in London, seeking their advice on procedures and policy.  The Pastoral Secretary themselves acts as adviser to the Archdeacons and Bishops, as well as the deaneries and parishes around the Diocese.

This role will suit candidates who enjoy learning new processes and guiding others through them, while keeping watch for imaginative solutions to apparent problems, and being confident in putting them forward.
