Publication of the Past Cases Review 2 (PCR2): Diocese of Ely Executive Summary [5 October 2022]

The Diocese of Ely welcomes the publication of the National Past Cases Review 2 (PCR2) Report, which can be found on the Church of England website here.

The National Past Cases Review 2 (PCR2) Report summarises the findings from all the PCR2’s undertaken by all 42 Dioceses, and represents the most extensive review of safeguarding cases ever conducted by the church.

The Diocese of Ely has today also published the Executive Summary of its own PCR2 report, which includes recommendations to be made locally, many of which have already been implemented. You can view this report here.

We welcome the local and national publication of these Reports as we continually strive to make the Church of England a safer environment for all.

We are saddened by the failings that have led to harm being done in the past, and welcome the steps being taken to create a safer environment for survivors to disclose and to build confidence in our safeguarding processes.

The Diocese of Ely recognise that we are still on a journey of improvement, and there will always be need for vigilance and care. The Diocese is committed to seeing through all of the recommendations identified in the Report and in continually striving to make the Church of England a safer environment for all.

If you are affected by a Safeguarding matter, please contact one of the supporting agencies that exist to help and support victims and survivors of abuse. A list of many of these organisations can be found on the Diocesan website here - https://www.elydiocese.org/safeguarding/helplines-and-contact-numbers/

If you wish to make a safeguarding referral to the Diocesan Safeguarding Team, you can also do so by calling the Duty Messaging Service on 01353 652747. This number is supported out-of-office hours by the organisation thirtyone:eight, an independent Christian safeguarding charity which helps individuals and organisations protect vulnerable people from abuse.
