This year a huge effort was made across the Diocese to submit data for the Energy Footprint Tool (a new return alongside the Finance and Mission returns for churches). The Energy Footprint Tool collects energy consumption data for churches and from this, provides useful information about a church’s current carbon footprint and means churches may be eligible for grants to help kickstart their net zero projects.
A total of 246 churches (74%) submitted their Energy Footprint Tool data in 2024, up from 117 (36%) in 2023.
Enormous thanks go to everyone who entered the data and to everyone who supported them.
The Energy Footprint Tool is an annual return now, so we have every hope that these numbers will only increase in future years. We would encourage everyone to keep their energy bills so that these are close to hand when the Energy Footprint Tool is launched early in 2025, making the data entry process much easier going forwards.
