Diocese of Ely publishes its Survivor Review

Diocese of Ely publishes its Survivor Review – 26 October 2022

The Diocese of Ely is keen to demonstrate continuous improvement and development in its safeguarding measures and processes, and through the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisory Panel (DSAP), has undertaken an independent review of the identification and support afforded to victims and survivors.

The independent reviewer, thirtyone:eight, was commissioned in March 2022 to undertake this Review. Throughout the process thirtyone:eight were particularly interested in speaking to those who have experienced survivor care through the Diocese of Ely to inform the Review.

The Diocese of Ely welcomes the findings of the Review, which identified Strengths, Aspirations, Challenges and Areas of Development. The Areas of Development identified a number of recommendations that will further improve upon the strong foundations of effective safeguarding processes that are already in place across the Diocese.

Further details of the Review’s findings can be found in the published Executive Summary, which can be downloaded from the safeguarding section of the website by clicking here.

The Rt Revd Dr Dagmar Winter, Bishop of Huntingdon, says: “Reading this Survivor Review for the Diocese of Ely, I am very grateful to thirtyone:eight for the thorough independent review undertaken, to our Diocesan Safeguarding Team for their work, and especially to the survivors who generously and graciously contributed. It was good to read of the strengths of the team and the appreciation for effective safeguarding training. However, culture change remains an ongoing challenge and I know that my personal commitment to this is shared by the entire Bishop’s Staff Team as we further develop survivor support as well as safeguarding support to our parishes”.
