With thanks to the Revd Olivia Coles, Whittlesford hosted its eighth biannual Art Exhibition in the Parish Church of St Mary & St Andrew’s.
Sixty-six local artists displayed in excess of 400 works, with a private viewing on the Friday evening followed by members of the public during the Saturday and Sunday. More than 350 people visited over the weekend with nearly 70 paintings sold, generating about £3,000.
Proceeds of the art exhibition will be donated to the ‘Raise the Roof’ Fund campaign which was launched in September 2017 to replace the tiled and lead roof. The Parish Church is a beutiful grade1 listed building and will celebrate its Millennium in 2022.
Have you heard about the The REACH Ely project (Reimagining Churches as Community Assets for the Common Good)? It aims to look at and help communities make fuller use of their historic churches. The project is implemented by the Diocese of Ely and Cambridge Judge Business School with the support of Allchurches Trust and Historic England.
As a Diocese we love to hear about the various activities happening in your parishes and communities. The different uses of our church buildings as community spaces is something we are really interested in hearing about. Eleanor is our Digital Evangelism Manager and will love to hear about what is happening in the Diocese, so please do share your parish stories or events with her by email here - firstname.lastname@example.org
