Cambridgeshire Historic Churches Trust would like to thank everyone who took part in this year’s Ride and Stride on Saturday the 12th September.
The event was different this year due to Covid-19, but the stories and donations coming in show that the day was more successful than expected! The sun was shining and those of you who could, visited churches whether open or closed to raise money for church repairs, which is needed now more than ever.
Here are some of the highlights from the day, to see more or send your own images and stories from the day please visit the Trust’s Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/CambsHCT/
“I took part in Ride & Stride for the Cambridgeshire Historic Churches Trust. I cycled with the Great Gransden ringers and singers, and we covered 25 miles and 9 churches. We were even able to go into 4 churches: there was a wedding at Hilton, a caretaker at Papworth St Agnes, a cleaner at Graveley and a proper welcome at Eltisley. The hedgerows were beautiful and the weather fine (apart from the fresh wind!).” Naomi - riding for the CHCT and St Peter's Coveney
“Graham is back from his ride around St Neots and surrounding village churches. He cycled c 30 miles and was keen to go for another ride when he had finished! Well done Graham. Now the work of collecting sponsor money begins for CHCT and Great Paxton Church.”
Team 2 from St Mary’s Buckden stayed relatively local and took lots of photos of their journey to 13 churches.
Riders and Striders in Soham were treated to a mini-market in St Andrew’s churchyard. It attracted about 200 local people throughout the day, with a very popular special little guest, a three-week-old kitten currently being cared for by Ely Cats Protection.
Ride and Stride is made possible thanks to the efforts of a range of volunteers, including members of a small team from Cambridgeshire Historic Churches Trust who administer and promote the event.
To develop the event further and raise even more money to help repair church buildings, the Trust is looking to expand this team and recruit more volunteers. They are searching for a Ride and Stride Co-ordinator, regional supporters and parish supporters.
These are very flexible roles which will focus on planning and promoting the event in order to inspire and support participants. It is a great team and a great event to be part of, with the chance to liaise with other Trusts across the county who run the event in their counties.
