On Sunday June 25, at a Festal Evensong, Ely Cathedral installed Rev Dr Robert Mackley as Honorary Canon of Ely Cathedral and Bishop Peter Collins as Ecumenical Canon of Ely Cathedral.
Pictured here with the Bishop of Ely, the Rt Rev Stephen Conway is Rev Dr Robert Mackley (left), Honorary Canon of Ely Cathedral and Bishop Peter Collins (right), Ecumenical Canon of Ely Cathedral.
Bishop Peter Collins is the fifth Roman Catholic Bishop of East Anglia.
He was ordained priest in 1984 for the Archdiocese of Cardiff and has served as an area Dean, a member of the College of Consultors, and a member of Archbishop’s Council.
He has chaired the Diocesan Education Commission and has also served as Director of the Diaconate. For eighteen years he was the Dean of St David’s Metropolitan Cathedral in Cardiff.
He was ordained as Bishop of East Anglia on 14th December 2022. We are grateful for all the ways already that Bishop Peter has strengthened friendships between our two dioceses.
The Revd Dr Robert Mackley has been Vicar of Little St Mary's Church in Cambridge since 2012.
Born and brought up near Nottingham, Fr Robert worshipped at LSM as an undergraduate. He read history at Christ's College and then theology at Emmanuel College while training for the priesthood at Westcott House. Ordained in 2003, he worked in city centre parishes in London and Liverpool before returning to Cambridge in 2009 to be Assistant Chaplain and a research student at Emmanuel, completing his PhD on the episcopate in the reign of George II.
He writes for the Bible Reading Fellowship, lectures aboard cruises, and is a regular columnist and reviewer for the Church Times. To relax, Fr Robert reads politics, theology and biography, eats out too much and watches Nottingham Forest fail to make any progress in the Championship!
