Mothers' Union Banner Exhibition

Mothers’ Union (MU) banners can be found in many parish churches and are often paraded at special services like Lady Day, Mary Sumner Day, and Commissioning Services. Their history goes back decades and the banners feature a skilled quality and variety of needlework. Other items of interest will be on display marking special occasions or events.

Mothers’ Union is a global Christian movement helping the world’s hardest-to-reach communities to transform their lives. They have been providing support for families since 1876. Their 4 million members are active in 84 countries, building a future where everyone can thrive.

In the Diocese of Ely they actively seek to do this regionally and locally. Some of their projects include: supporting parents and providing holidays for families in need; supporting prisons and collecting items for refuges and hostels; knitting and sewing projects for hospitals, care homes and overseas. MU actively supports campaigns on social justice issues including the UN 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence and The Clewer Initiative, which works in raising awareness and prevention of Modern Slavery.

Prayer and fellowship are integral to the way Mothers’ Union lives out its calling and vision, seeking for God’s love to be shown through loving, respectful and flourishing relationships. Members pray regularly for the health and wellbeing of families worldwide, where MU is working with people of all faiths and none, actively supporting those at the heart of communities.
