Following the Church of England Announcement on 12 October 2022 of a new £15 million fund to help churches with their energy bills (published on the Diocesan website here), we are pleased to provide further details on the Parish Church allocation and distribution within the Diocese of Ely.
At Bishop’s Council on 23 November 2022, it was agreed that each Parish Church will be allocated a one-off grant of £600. This figure was calculated based on the Church Commissioners allocation to the Diocese of Ely (via the Ely Diocesan Board of Finance), divided evenly between all of our Parish Churches.
Each Parish Church will be issued the £600 energy costs grant by either bank transfer or cheque. The remittance advice or cheque will be accompanied by a letter from the Bishop of Ely. This letter will be posted to the PCC Treasurer for appropriate action via the local Parochial Church Council (PCC) mechanisms. Where we do not hold the details for the PCC Treasurer, an appropriate alternative will be decided upon on a case-by-case basis by the EDBF Finance Team.
We will start making the bank transfers and posting the grant cheques from mid-December (2022), so we hope they will start to arrive with parishes before the end of 2022.
Further details will be issued by post and direct email to Parish contacts in the coming days and weeks.
