Do You Help with your Church Building?

Firstly, we would like to thank you for all you continue to do to look after and celebrate church buildings.

We know that the care and management of our buildings relies on volunteers, including PCC members, churchwardens and members of Friends groups, and we are aware that there may not have been as much training and support as there ought to be. Going forward, we’d like to try to improve this, but we want to make sure we provide the right training and support to meet your needs. To do this we need a better understanding of what it means to be a church building volunteer, particularly in light of the pandemic.

The Building Volunteers Survey has been designed to capture some of the key information, but there is space to add any additional information you feel will help.

Who should complete this survey?

The main volunteer(s) responsible for the maintenance, repair and management of the church building, or the incumbent if this is more appropriate.  We ask you to complete one survey per person, but there is no limit to how many people from the same parish can take part.

Why should we complete it?

The Building Volunteers Survey is your opportunity to tell us about your experiences so we can identify what is working well, as well as areas that need improving particularly with regards to training, support and recognition.  The results will inform the training and support that the Church Buildings Team provides and also discussions with external organisations.

It only takes about 10 minutes.

What will happen to my information?

The information collected will be kept anonymous; there is no need to add any personal detail unless you wish to be contacted as a follow-up to the survey.  Contact details will be separated from the rest of the survey information.   All your responses will be treated as confidential, and data will be processed in accordance with the Diocese of Ely Data Privacy Policy, which can be viewed on the Diocesan website.

The results of the survey will be reported on internally and externally in combination with a set of responses from follow-up discussions. Our aim is to share a summary of these finding with you this winter, and then publish the results more widely.

If you would like to take part in a follow-up discussion (individual or group) to help broaden the survey and add detail to your answers, please leave your contact details in the final part of the survey.

The survey is available online, but if you would prefer a paper version or to complete the survey with us over the phone, please contact Holly Isted.  Similarly, if you have any problems with the online survey, please contact Holly.

We really do want to hear from you and value your input.

Please take part in the Building Volunteers Survey by the 31st July.

Thank you for your help.
