2023 marks the 1,350th year since St Etheldreda founded the first monastery at Ely.
The Cathedral is looking forward to celebrating this anniversary with a series of special services, concerts and events. Central to these are the services on the weekend of the 24 and 25 June 2023.
Bishop Stephen writes to invite you to come and bring a group of as many as you like from your parish or chaplaincy to the Diocesan Festal Eucharist on Saturday 24 June at 12.00 noon.
Bishop Stephen is also pleased to announce that The Archbishop of York will preaching at this Service, so we would like to fill the Cathedral with members of churches from across the Diocese.
All clergy and LLMs are invited to robe and join the procession into the Cathedral from the Old Palace. [They will be asked to be robed and ready at 11.45am. As this will be a Eucharist, clergy are invited to robe in alb and white stole, or else in choir dress.]
Refreshments will be offered after the Eucharist and for which we shall be asking several parishes to bake shortbread biscuits using a special commemorative Etheldreda “cookie cutter.”
Please put this date in your diaries and parish calendars.
