What is Open the Book?
Open the Book (OtB) is an exciting storytelling project where Bible stories are shared with children in a way that is fun, interactive and memorable. As invited guests in school, storytelling teams use the Open the Book programme to prepare and present a 10–15-minute scripted Bible story to a school assembly, involving the children as much as possible.
The Open the Book team at Ramseys and Upwood are supported and encouraged by all, and recently enjoyed an end-of-term celebratory afternoon tea at St Thomas a Becket Church, which was organised by the ministry team to thank them for their commitment, and to toast their successes in sharing these Bible stories with young people in Ramsey over the past year. This team of fantastic volunteers told me that they spend hours rehearsing each week, as well as making imaginative props and costumes to help bring the stories to life. They all enjoy dressing up and giving interactive performances to the children, often having to think on their feet as they perform! One of the volunteers, Leo, told me that it was "the highlight of his week" to go in and share the good news of Jesus with the school children.
