Candlemas Ordinations 2025

On the occasion of the Feast of the Presentation of Christ, there will be the following ordinations:

On Saturday 1 February, 11am at St Andrew’s, Cherry Hinton, Bishop Dagmar will ordain Jeff Heiderscheit deacon and Leo Orobor priest.

Jeff Heiderscheit

Jeff Heiderscheit earned his undergraduate bachelor’s degree in 1990 from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, USA in Music Education. After graduation he served for 3 years as a school music educator, then moved into church work in the area of youth and family ministry. In 1996, Jeff felt the call to attend seminary at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota and earned both his Masters of Theology (2000), and Doctorate of Ministry (2013).

Following ordination within the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) on 15 June 2000, Jeff served four parishes in Minnesota, USA. Jeff recently moved to England to follow his wife, Annie Heiderscheit’s position at Anglia Ruskin University, where she serves as Professor of Music Therapy and Director of Cambridge Institute for Music Therapy Research (CIMTR). Their daughters, Gray and Caroline, are university students at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge as well. Jeff will serve his curacy at Cherry Hinton while working as a Hospital Chaplain at Addenbrooke’s in Cambridge.

Leo Orobor

Leo grew up in a Christian family. Whilst studying for his A Levels in Northamptonshire, he met Ully (pronounced You-Lee) and they got married in 2006. Leo studied Law & Politics at ARU, Cambridge, and fell in love with Cambridge City.

Leo is passionate about evangelism and sports and founded Corinthians FT in 2010, coaching a non-league football team for teenage and young adults, raising leaders through the discipline of faith and football. Leo’s experiences span across the civil service, youth & community work and he joined the Ely Diocese Changing Market Towns project in Ramsey in 2018.

Leo volunteered as Chaplain at the Teenage Cancer Trust ward in Addenbrookes Hospital, and his passion for faith and football led him to be Chaplain for Cambridge Football United. Leo enjoys movies, good music, and anything football. Leo will continue to serve his curacy in Huntingdon, joined by his wife Ully and their two children.

On Sunday 2 February, 5pm at Christ Church, Cambridge, Bishop Rob will ordain Alex Macdonald deacon.

Alex Macdonald

Originally from Australia, Alex studied Ancient History and then trained for ministry in Australia, and has enjoyed combining ministry and academia in various combinations over the last decade. With his wife Katie and two young children he now lives in Cambridge, where he is pursuing a PhD in the history and theology of the early church, and serving as the Decani scholar at Clare College chapel. He misses the Australian beaches, but enjoys cycling and camping with the family as well as sitting down for a large cup of tea (with croissant or biscuits). Alex will serve his curacy at Christ Church, Cambridge.

Please pray for Jeff, Leo and Alex and for the communities they serve.

God our Father, Lord of all the world,

through your Son you have called us into the fellowship

of your universal Church:

hear our prayer for Jeff, Leo and Alex,

that in their vocation and ministry

each may be an instrument of your love,

and give to them now to be ordained

the needful gifts of grace;

through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ,

who is alive and reigns with you,

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and forever.

Amen.
