On the 9th and 10th October, All Saints Church in Wretton, the parish Church for Wretton and neighbouring Stoke Ferry, held a Harvest Festival weekend.
The Church was decorated beautifully with flowers, plants, fruit and vegetables all donated by the parishioners.
Wendy and Ann were first in with gorgeous home-grown marrows, pumpkins, courgettes, potatoes and a butternut squash which were displayed on the altar all week.
A small team of church members arrived on Friday night to decorate the church throughout for 'Harvest home'. Carol made traditional Harvest Sheaves of bread which were displayed at the entrance and in the chancel. The result looked beautiful, as I hope you agree from the photos and there was a reassuring garden scent, we were bringing nature inside.
The Church which is open every day, was offering tea, coffee and cake on Saturday and Sunday afternoon reaching out to the community to come in and stay a while and we’re so pleased that so many people came along to enjoy the event.
Some of the Saturday afternoon guests then came to the Harvest service on Sunday. Rev Dr Ian Mack held an 11am Harvest Festival Holy Communion where goods that had been donated were offered during the service and afterwards there was a picnic lunch. Several more of the locals came along to join in on Sunday and enjoyed the home made cakes in the afternoon.
The tinned goods that were offered on Sunday were taken to the Downham Market Foodbank and the fresh produce was delivered to the Kings Lynn Night Shelter to be cooked and served the next week. Both were amazed at the generosity of people in these small rural villages.
