Letter to the Diocese of Ely from The Rt Revd Dr Dagmar Winter

Dear Friends,
The Diocese of Edinburgh (Scottish Episcopal Church) has just published that yesterday, Saturday 14th February, its Synod elected me to be the next Bishop of Edinburgh.
This is a great honour for me personally, but of course it does inevitably mean that in late spring 2026, it will be time for me to leave the Diocese of Ely.
There will be more to say in due course, but I would like to put on record now my immense gratitude to you all for your prayers and support which have carried me, and indeed us, through these last few years.
I continue to be in close contact with Bishop Sarah, happily nominated to be our next Bishop of Ely, and I will be in touch with you all once further information becomes available.
Only last night I confirmed some young people, preaching on John 20:19-end, and told them “as Jesus was sent, so he sends us”.
So wherever that may be, may we go with God’s guidance and blessing.
