Alexa now recites The Book of Common Prayer

The Book of Common Prayer is now available on Amazon smart speakers with the help of our very own the Rev James Shakespeare, Priest in Charge of St John’s, Cambridge, and Curate, the Rev Chris Campbell.

Cambridge University Press, which publishes the Book of Common Prayer, recently announced that Alexa smart speakers would be programmed with a new “skill” - the Cambridge Prayer Book.

The plan is to enable people to pray and worship at home.

Among other things, users will be able to ask Alexa to “Pray the Lord’s Prayer”; “Recite the Grace” or “Say morning prayer”.

The services are being read by the Rev James Shakespeare, Priest in Charge of St John’s, Cambridge and Curate Rev Chris Campbell. In place of a congregation, responses have been recorded by members of the Cambridge University Press choir.

As the Queen’s Printer, Cambridge University Press administers the Crown Copyright of the Prayer Book and plans to add more content in the future.
