REV’D Edwin John Penny

We were sorry to hear of the death on 7^th July 2025 of Rev’d Edwin John Penny, John.  We offer John’s wife Diana and the family our sympathy, love and prayers in their bereavement.

 Born in 1943, John took a BA from Leeds University in 1964 and then went on to train for ministry at The College of the Resurrection at Mirfield.

John was ordained deacon in 1966 and priest in 1967

He served as Curate at:

Adcocks Green Birmingham1966-69, Wombourne, Lichfield 1969-71 and Wednesbury St Paul’s Wood Green 1971-74.

He went on to be Vicar of Kingshurst Birmingham 1974-79 followed by Chaplain to All Hallows Convent Norwich 1979-82. He became Hon Chaplain to Overgate Hospice in Yorksire 1982-84, Hon Curate of Raveningham Norwich 1984-90, Hon Chaplain to All Hallows Hospital Norfolk Pastoral Team 1990-93 and moved to be Diocesan Communications Officer for Gloucester Diocese alongside being Priest in charge of Upton St Leonard’s 1993-97.

He moved back to Norwich Diocese as Priest-in-Charge of Stiffkey and Cockthorpe, Morston. Langham etc 1997-03, Prist-in-Charge Gunthorpe w Bale w Field Dalling, Saxlingham etc 1999-03, Rector of Stiffkey and Bale 2003-04, retiring in 2004.

John held PTO in Norwich from 2004, Ely 2006-16 and 2016-23 and Durham 2017-18. He was also Rural Dean of Wisbech Lynne Marshland 2009-11.
