We were very sad to learn today that Tim Burgess MBE died this morning in Hinchingbrooke Hospital following a short illness.
After a varied and fascinating career in a range of public services, Tim and his wife Jenny came to the area in the early years of the new century when he took up a role as effectively the Chief Executive of The Edward Storey Foundation in Mount Pleasant Cambridge. He immediately threw himself into parish roles in Papworth Everard and diocesan life as well as his work responsibilities. During this time he developed a number of underlying and progressive health problems which he fought with resilience and courage.
He was Team Treasurer for the Papworth Team Ministry until 2016, a member of the Diocesan Board of Finance and Chair of the diocesan Retreat House in Ely. Having grown up as a Methodist he was pleased to be licensed as a Reader/LLM by +David in 2016, in which capacity his service taking and pastoral interest of people was appreciated in many of the Papworth Team churches. Tim was the founding Director of the Rendezvous programme for older people that runs in the Papworth Team Ministry.
Tim was awarded the MBE in 2018 and chosen as a recipient for the Queen’s Maundy money in 2019.
Tim was described earlier today as a “force of nature” and will be sadly missed.
He leaves behind Jenny and two sons.
May he rest in peace and rise in glory.
