Courageous Advocacy
Weeting Church of England Primary School
Student members of the School Council at Weeting Church of England Primary School were recently awarded the Diocese of Ely Courageous Advocacy Award, in recognition for all the hard work they have put in around fundraising for East Anglian Children's Hospice (EACH) this year.
The School Council chose this charity in September after looking at different local charities that supported children and families. They chose EACH because they felt that it was important that all children are happy and have fun even in the face of great medical challenges that their life limiting conditions bring.
The School Council met with Ellie Miller, EACH fundraising co-ordinator, to hear about the different fundraising events they could hold, comparing the complexity of organising events with how much money different events raise. As a result, the students planned a series of events throughout the year, including donation buckets at their Christmas production, a Christmas Jumper Day, a sponsored walk and run event and a sponsored rounders day for all children and families. The variety of events helped to raise over £1400 for EACH. Two representatives from school council were invited for a tour around The Nook hospice to see how their money will be used to help others.
