Courageous Advocacy
Folksworth Church of England Primary School
Frankie Dalton, a year 5 student at Folksworth Church of England Primary School, was recently awarded a Diocese of Ely Courageous Advocacy Award, in recognition of her raising the profile of Parkinson's, for wanting to understand what it must be like when you can’t speak to communicate, and for trying to raise money to help.
Frankie told her teachers that she decided to raise money for Parkinsons, “I would like to raise money for Parkinson’s as my Grandad suffers with it, it affects his speech so I thought that a sponsored silence would help me realise how hard it was for Grandad to speak.”.
She completed a 5K mud run and a sponsored silence, raising a grand total of £1545. As well as this amazing fundraising effort, she also publicised this cause through her local newspaper. Frankie is pictured here receiving her award from Canon Andrew Read, Diocesan Director of Education, Mission and Ministry during her school's celebration assembly.
