Mothers' Union

The Mothers’ Union is an international Christian membership charity that aims to demonstrate the Christian faith in action through the transformation of communities worldwide

It has been promoting and supporting stable family life since 1876. We have over four million members in 84 countries worldwide and aim to support family life in communities both locally and globally.

JOIN US and JOIN IN! - MU is changing lives

The Mothers’ Union Theme for 2025-2027 is: JOIN US and JOIN IN! - MU is changing lives.

This new triennial theme builds on “Transformation Now!” which looks at how MU can continue to be relevant and reflect the needs of churches and communities in the 21st century.

We need to be courageous and reach out to others inviting them to Join us and Join in. We are changing lives! We need to share our work and service with others, and to let them know how relevant we are in this place, 'for such a time as this.' (Esther 4:14).

The clear message is that MU is evolving, and MU needs to grow if we are going to continue as a movement of members delivering change in communities across the globe. This theme asks us to proactively share about MU and encourage anyone who supports what we do, to join us and join in. It also asks existing members to take a look at what they feel able to do in their churches and communities, and to join in.

Mothers' Union in the Diocese of Ely

In the Diocese of Ely we actively seek to support stable family life regionally and locally. Caring for families for us involves:

  • Supporting parents
  • Providing holidays for families in need
  • Supporting Littlehey and Whitemoor Prisons
  • Collecting for 3 women’s refuges, 2 hostels for young people, and Mary’s Child
  • Providing Parent and Child marquees at county/local shows
  • Knitting and sewing projects for hospitals, care homes, baby banks, Women’s Refuges, the homeless, and overseas via Christian Hope International
  • Supporting The Sick Children’s Trust at the Rosie Hospital, Cambridge.

Social Justice

By speaking out against social injustice and campaigning for the recognition of the value of stable family life, Mothers' Union aims to work towards its vision of a world where God's love is shown through loving, respectful and flourishing relationships.

A significant part of our work locally is campaigning on social justice issues relevant to families wherever they are. In the Diocese of Ely, our members actively support national campaigns like the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence.
