Mothers' Union

Transforming lives through faith, community and action

For 150 years, we have been making a meaningful difference in the lives of millions worldwide through our unique, faith-based and community-led approach to tackling poverty, injustice and violence. We understand that these challenges are deeply interconnected and as such, our response is holistic, while confronting the systemic causes and consequences of marginalisation and oppression.

We have been promoting and supporting stable family life since 1876. We have over four million members in 84 countries worldwide and aim to support family life in communities both locally and globally.

JOIN US and JOIN IN! - MU is changing lives

We need to be courageous and reach out to others inviting them to Join us and Join in. We are changing lives! We need to share our work and service with others, and to let them know how relevant we are in this place, 'for such a time as this.' (Esther 4:14).

Prayer and Fellowship

Prayer and fellowship are integral to the way Mothers' Union lives out its calling and vision. Members pray regularly for the health and wellbeing of families worldwide. Find more Prayer Resources.

Family: Faith: Fun

Our Family: Faith: Fun Activity Sheet is produced each month by Ros, and can be shared with families in your church or parish if you are able to do so.

Social Justice

By speaking out against social injustice and campaigning for the recognition of the value of stable family life, Mothers' Union aims to work towards its vision of a world where God's love is shown through loving, respectful and flourishing relationships.

A significant part of our work locally is campaigning on social justice issues relevant to families wherever they are. In the Diocese of Ely, our members actively support national campaigns like the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence.

We support the United Nations’ 16 Days of Activism campaign which runs from 25 November to 10 December.

Gender-based violence is one of the most widespread violations of human rights. It can affect anyone at any time, and it takes many forms. It can be a part of a damaging cultural norm or hidden behind closed doors. We believe that we must bring this into the light. Throughout this campaign, we join with over 6,000 organisations from over 185 countries to raise awareness of and call for an end to gender-based violence and abuse in all forms and in all societies. Find 16 Days of Activism Resources.

RISE UP against domestic violence aims to raise awareness about domestic abuse across Britain & Ireland

Respond, Inform, Support, Empower, Unite and Pray.

Domestic abuse can happen to anyone from any walk of life. It’s our goal that Mothers’ Union members and churches will work together to be a part of the change and will get involved with our RISE UP challenge. Find RISE UP! Resources.
