Do Nothing for God

I wonder what your relationship with the Sabbath is? Of course, for those in ministry, Sunday is a time to lead others into a space of worship and prayer, so we need to find a different time in the week to dedicate to God. In January, we can feel pressure to set targets, craft annual goals, even the dreaded ‘new year resolutions’; but what if the best thing we could do for ourselves, our communities, and God, would be less, indeed, to do nothing once a week?
I have recently come across the Green Sabbath Project, and its goal is to enable people to stop.

Here’s what they say:
Take a weekly day of rest.  Make it a real sabbath. For you.  For earth.
Don’t drive.  Don’t shop. Don’t build.
Take a walk.  Eat with friends.  Play or read with your kids.
Sing. Meditate. Celebrate contentment.
A capitalist society drives constant growth; God’s kingdom reflects alternative values. In God’s kingdom there is time for rest, for peace, for joy, for being with.
