Little Gidding Quiet Day
Led by the Revd Dr Charlie Bell, fellow in Public Theology and Medicine at Girton College, Cambridge, and Associate Vicar of St John the Divine, Kennington
The psalms have held a central role in Christian spirituality and prayer throughout the two millennia of the church’s history, and their role in Little Gidding’s original community was no different, with the daily recitation of the psalter a key part of their disciplined life of prayer. The psalms do a remarkable thing – they ground us in the faith of our forebears, whilst at the same time feeling surprisingly contemporary in the way they engage the human condition. Their language of approach and even reproach to God is a gift to us today, as we continue to grapple with so much of the
same stuff of human living – however different its modern-day manifestations.
In this Quiet Day, we will pause and pray through the psalms, asking what they might be saying to us today. What might they help us voice in a world, and a church, that can feel anxious, afraid, and out of control? How might they help us live a holy Lent? What might their wisdom contribute to the present age?
Quiet Days will run from 10am – 4pm, with coffee served from 9.30am. The cost of the day is £32, which includes a simple Soup lunch and afternoon tea. Tea and coffee are available throughout the day.
Please email the Chaplain revfiona@norleigh.org.uk with the Quiet Day reference number(s) you would like to book and include: Your name, email address and phone number, any additional information we might find helpful, dietary requirements and details of deposit(s) paid.
