Marriage Law and practice guidance Refresher
Marriage Law and practice guidance REFRESHER for Clergy and Parish Administrators
Led by Neil Turpin, Chief Clerk for the FACULTY OFFICE OF THE ARCHBISHOP OF CANTERBURY
on Wednesday 15th January, 9.30 - 11.30am online via Zoom
Whether you are in your first clergy post or have been in ministry for many years there are various aspects of marriage law affecting the Church of England that have the potential to trip you up. Some may have no real practical consequences, but others have the potential to invalidate a couple’s marriage or even result in a criminal conviction!
In this refresher course, Neil will offer an opportunity to update your knowledge on all matters of law related to marriage in the Church of England. The course will help you to:
- Understand the process for marrying people with non-UK/Irish nationality or EUSS status
- Revisit guidance about to undertake and how long you must store ID checks
- Check the law on Bishop’s Marriage Orders, banns, and qualifying connections
- Understand and use special licences, and the process for emergency marriages
- Ask any questions.
This event will be hosted online via Zoom. Registered attendees will be sent the zoom details closer to the event.
Registrations close on Wednesday 08th January 2025.
