Supporting People with Learning Disabilities
In collaboration with Count Everyone In, the Diocese presents this training course for anyone who wants to learn more about supporting and enabling people with learning disabilities, both in churches and in our communities.
This course, running from 10am–2pm over two Saturdays, will help participants to better understand learning disabilities and the kinds of challenges people with learning disabilities might face. We will also consider theological and scriptural foundations for thinking about learning disabilities, explore tools for making our churches spaces of belonging for all, and look at ways of supporting people with learning disabilities through major life events and experiences.
Anyone is welcome to join this course, whether you are simply interested in the topic, are already volunteering in a church, or want to enrich and expand your existing ministry.
You can book your place online via our Training Portal.
Or contact learning@elydiocese.org to register your interest in future courses.
Exploring Learning Disability Companion ALM ministry
This course also serves as the first step for those who wish to explore becoming a Learning Disability Companion ALM (Authorised Lay Minister), supporting people with learning disabilities.
At the end of the second session, there will be an opportunity for a “What next?” conversation for those wishing to explore this ministry further. Those who wish to continue can then go on to a further Companion session as part of the journey towards ALM authorisation.
