Parish Administrator, St. Bene't's Church Cambridge

St. Bene't's Church Cambridge is seeking a part time Parish Administrator to support its Christian mission and ministry through providing effective administration in managing the parish office and facilities. Deadline for applications is 24 November 2025 (by 12 noon).

Job Description

1) Parish Communications

  • Develop and maintain an up-to-date understanding of the work of the church
  • Manage parish correspondence including acting as first point of contact for enquiries
  • Produce the weekly publication of Tidings – the parish weekly pew sheet

2) Administrative Support for Worship

  • Co-ordinate rotas for services on Sundays and midweek
  • Complete marriage register
  • Organise administrative requirements for weddings, baptisms and funerals
  • Co-ordinate copyright licenses

3) General Administrative Support

  • Update and manage the electoral roll
  • Organise printing requirements
  • Manage church bookings
  • Ensure that St. Bene't's, through its processing of data and information, adheres to data protection legislation

4) Building Maintenance and Development

  • Communicate to the Vicar and Wardens any concerns regarding the building including health and safety concerns
  • Communicate with contractors as required
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation for the maintenance of the boiler, electrical equipment, fire equipment and the lightning conductor by arranging inspection visits
  • In consultation with the Church Wardens, maintain the Logbook

5) Financial Administration

  • Produce and process invoices as required
  • Other administrative support to the Treasurer as required

6) Safeguarding

  • Maintain up to date safeguarding records including the completion of ID checks
  • Ensure that all records kept comply with Parish and Diocesan safeguarding policies

Person specification

  • Excellent communication and people skills
  • Strong organisational and multitasking abilities
  • Proficient in office software and database management
  • Well-developed administration skills with great attention to detail
  • An affinity with the work of St. Bene’t’s and the Church of England, developing an understanding, over time, of church operations, policies and ministries

Terms and conditions

  • Salary - £16 per hour plus contributory pension
  • Working hours – part-time 15 hours per week, ideally to be worked over three days on site
  • Holiday entitlement – 25 days per annum (pro-rata)
  • Contract – permanent with a probationary period of three months
  • Line manager – the Vicar
  • This role is subject to a disclosure from the DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service).
