Every Spring a training course if offered for those wishing to specialise in Lay Ministry with children training. It covers a wide range of topics from theology to learning styles, imaginative storytelling to creative prayer and faith formation.

The next course will be 2020 and more details will be released nearer the time. The course usually comprises four components:

  • Full attendance at a 10 week Growing as a Discipleship course (held locally)
  • Full Attendance at three Core Training Days plus three optional Wednesday evening sessions - delegates can choose three topics from five sessions offered
  • Completion of three short practical assignments based on training with the Children's Adviser
  • Completed relevant Safeguarding Training

At the end of 2019 we had 26 Children's ALMs in the Diocese of Ely supporting children's faith development.

Some comments from a recent Children's ALM course:

'The course is very thought provoking and has a practical element which is incredibly useful.'

'If you work with children in church-DO IT! A treasure chest of skills, ideas and resources can be yours and you will have fun learning!!'

'Initially I felt like a 'fish out of water'. I am now inspired, encouraged and enthusiastic. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to think more about children's ministry.'

Occasional Seminars

Seminars for Teachers, Parents, GPs, Clergy, Youth Leaders & Social Workers are also offered to help students learn about mental health issues faced by children and young people. More information about the next seminars is coming soon.
