Our Education team are delighted to announce a new development for Courageous Advocacy Awards
A few years ago, all Church of England schools in Ely Diocese were issued with a trophy to celebrate children when they have championed a meaningful cause for the benefit of others. Pupils receive a certificate, which may be presented in a collective worship by a member of the Education Team or staff member, and they have a photo opportunity with the trophy. The trophy remains in the school, but the certificate can go home with the pupil.
When using the term ‘courageous advocacy’ we are referring to the act of speaking out against an issue of injustice, often on behalf of those whose voice is not heard.

We want to recognise the wide range of ways the children at our schools are showing courageous advocacy, and encourage them to think of new ways to be agents of change. Therefore the team are launching three distinct categories of Courageous Advocacy Awards:
- Courageous Advocacy for Charity – this could be raising money or awareness for a cause that means something to the pupil.
- Courageous Advocacy for Creation – caring for God’s creation, actively encouraging others to do the same.
- Courageous Advocacy in our Community – making a difference in your school community, or wider.
We believe this will encourage more creativity amongst pupils when thinking how they can make a difference. We hope that schools will embrace this new award, and we look forward to sending out lots of certificates. You can read more stories of Courageous Advocacy on our School News pages.
