Assistant Curate (Training Post) - Christ Church in Orton Goldhay and Alwalton a

The parishes of Christ Church, Orton Goldhay and Alwalton and Chesterton cover an exciting variety of contexts for mission and ministry, with a growing population in areas of social and economic deprivation on the edge of Peterborough as well as more affluent rural living.

This part of Peterborough is home to the East of England Showground, up to 4,000 new houses, six schools (including one Secondary, one Special school, and a C of E VA Primary), and more elderly residents in assisted living accommodation.

Christ Church is an Ecumenical Partnership with the Church of England, the United Reformed Church and the Methodist Church, and sees itself very much as the church for the community. The area served by Christ Church is an area of new housing from some 30 or 40 years ago and has evolved into a wonderfully diverse neighbourhood.

Alwalton and Chesterton offer a different perspective with a hint too of rural life.

The Training incumbent and Priest in Charge, The Revd Sarah Gower, is passionate about parish ministry and would relish sharing with a new curate this excellent training opportunity where the postholder would engage in both an all-encompassing range of services and play an exciting part in the growing together of these parishes.

Sarah (currently also the Rural Dean) leads a Benefice-wide team of lay ministers and one retired priest, in shaping a vision of developing welcome plans for those moving into the new housing areas, developing schools’ work across the group, and encouraging lay ministry.

This could be an appropriate post for someone who is missional and community minded, which could lead to opportunities for pioneering.

The curate will be housed in Alwalton, which is situated 5 miles west of Peterborough.
